Multi-Award-winning singer, songwriter and artist Micky Cruz is an international star who has performed extensively throughout the U.S., Mexico and Latin America.
In the corporate world, he has performed for some of the most prestigious international conventions, such as American Express, Kodak and the International meeting professionals. He also personally performed for former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Chenny.
Micky is a former VMG-WARNER artist who released several CD’s as a recording artist. His Billboard Top 40 hit song Morena placed him among some of the biggest names in the Latino music industry, such as Alejandro Sanz, Cristian Castro and Luis Miguel. His latest CD, CUMBEGUE 2, is already receiving four-star reviews and heavy radio airplay on a national level.
Micky was born in Nicaragua, Central America, but his ancestry is Filipino and Mayan Indian. He was orphaned at the age of two, when his family was killed in the Nicaraguan war in the late 1970s. He then raised himself on the streets of Central America and Mexico.
As a child, he conquered the daily struggles of a homeless life by singing on street corners, buses and trains, and by finding short-term gigs with traveling bands. Eventually his talent and musical career developed on a more professional level. He released his first CD at the age of 15.
Micky is a self-taught musician and composer who writes and produces all of his own music. His musical career began as a child’s survival tactic in a Third World Country. He never thought that music would become a full-time career, but people enjoyed his voice so much that it seemed a natural path to follow.
It didn’t take long for Micky’s story to reach the Univision Broadcasting newsroom, where he was invited to do an interview. There he met the legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame artist Bo Diddley, who took a liking to him, and gave Micky the opportunity to record his second CD.
Now, the Micky Cruz Show is a Southwest-based headliner premier act that takes the stage at the hottest clubs, hotels, casinos in Las Vegas, Nev.; Miami, Fla.; Denver, Colo.; New York City; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Micky's music reflects a mix of cumbia, salsa, and reggae. He has added an interesting, refreshing twist to those styles by combining them together into his personal musical invention, "cumbegue." Cumbegue is a unique cumbia-salsa-reggae combination that creates a very strong and danceable beat, coupled with great melodic hooks and harmonies that are capped-off with exciting soloing throughout the band.
