Late last year Amazon unveiled a new, simplified way for radio stations to be added as a listening option on its Alexa-powered devices. Onboarding to the Alexa Radio Skills Kit will no longer require a custom, built-from-scratch skill, which has hindered some small and medium market stations from being available on Amazon Echo.
Stations need only provide the streaming URLs and metadata via a simple intake process, the company wrote in a blog post.
“The new service makes onboarding a radio station simple,” the post read. “Radio stations no longer have to build or maintain a skill, lambda, or catalog.”
