SkyWest Media Silver City

Silver City Radio/SkyWest Media has worked diligently to support community wide efforts to clean up waste from roadways and waterways, while also encouraging recycling. We have actively been working with the Silver City Watershed Keepers, a volunteer environmental quality group, to help keep the waterways and surrounding areas clear of pollution. This involved a large effort to promote awareness to “Pick It Up, Toss No Moss” with intensive on-going radio campaigns and a special focus on encouraging the community to participate in the third Saturday of each month’s community-wide clean up day. This involved educational radio ads, call-to-action ads, live DJ commentary, a video production created by SkyWest Media, and social media. Additionally, the campaign focused on the Silver City Recyclables project, where radio messaging was created on recycling and to “cover your load” when going to the landfill. All aspects of the radio campaign, with the social media integration, have been credited with positively impacting the community with higher recycling volumes and less litter. More than 5000 pounds of trash, debris, and recyclables have been collected in the past six-monthly Saturday clean ups and more than 150 volunteers have been mobilized including youth, service groups, and families.
