Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA)
The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) provides one-time federal compensation payments to individuals and families affected by radiation exposure connected to the Trinity Test and other atmospheric nuclear testing.
Following recent legislative updates, New Mexicans who lived, worked, or attended school anywhere in New Mexico for at least one year between September 24, 1944 and November 6, 1962 may now qualify for compensation if diagnosed with one of several cancers or qualifying illnesses linked to radiation exposure.
Eligible individuals or surviving family members may receive up to $100,000 in federal compensation.
The NMBA is proud to partner with the New Mexico Department of Health to help ensure New Mexicans are aware of this important opportunity and know where to find additional information and resources.
